Review: Arrow

Undoubtedly, Arrow has been one of the most anticipated TV series this year. Based on comic book character Green Arrow, the TV series was called by many moviegoers the most engaging and compelling super hero story translated to the small screens. Superhero movies clearly dominated the box office in 2012, and now superhero Arrow plans to dominate TV screens.

The Arrow series is produced by Warner Bros and DC Comics. The main character of the series is Oliver McQueen, well known for his role in Smallville, which lasted for no less than eleven seasons. After surviving a shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen is missing and presumed dead. After around five years since no one has heard from him, he is found on an island in the Pacific and brought home to Starling City. Once arrived home, his alter ego take control and he starts fighting criminals and protecting his family as Arrow, a superhero with no supernatural powers. As series producer Marc Guggenheim points out, there are no superpowers presented in 'Arrow', but the character has a well-developed set of skills that make him a powerful weapon against all criminals.

The series is well done, and the actors do a good job yet action seekers might be a bit disappointed by Arrow. It is somewhat similar to Revolution in the sense that there are no bloody fighting scenes, and because here too we are witnessing characters dealing with their feelings and trying to overcome traumas.

Verdict:

Arrow is certainly not for those looking for a kick ass superhero series, but rather a show meant for the whole family. There is a bit of violence here and there, but nothing kids are not used to from their cartoons. Still, Arrow is enjoyable and make for an entertaining half hour or so.
